Choosing the right service
Which service do I need: materials testing, special inspection, or geotechnical?
Geotechnical comes first — borings and a report that tell the engineer what the ground can carry. Materials testing happens during construction, verifying the concrete, soil, and aggregate placed match the specification. Special inspection is the code-required verification under IBC Chapter 17 that the structural work (reinforcing, formwork, bolting, welding, masonry) matches the approved plans. Most commercial projects need all three, usually from one agency.
Can one firm handle testing, inspection, environmental, and survey on the same project?
Yes. Materials testing and special inspection are performed by our own certified technicians. Geotechnical, forensic, environmental, and survey work is delivered with professionals licensed in the project's state, coordinated under one proposal and one point of contact.
How do I get pricing?
Send the specification sections for quality requirements, concrete, and earthwork, plus the plans or quantities, through the proposal request form. A written scope with unit rates and a total comes back — rate sheets alone are not a budget.
Do you work outside the Houston area?
Yes. Sugar Land, Texas is the laboratory and headquarters; field work is dispatched through 27 regional hubs with project-based coverage in all 50 states. Same-day scheduling is typical in the Houston metro; elsewhere, work is scheduled by phone at (346) 420-5425 or through a proposal.
What is IBC Chapter 17 special inspection and who provides it?
IBC Section 1705 requires an approved agency to verify structural concrete, reinforcing, soils and compacted fill, structural masonry, structural steel bolting and welding, and post-installed anchors against the approved drawings, and to report to the building official. The owner hires the agency; we supply ICC-certified special inspectors and ACI- and NICET-certified technicians with the laboratory behind them.
What does a materials testing report include?
Field data as recorded — slump, air content, temperature, cylinder IDs, nuclear gauge density and moisture with the Proctor reference — plus laboratory results (ASTM C39 compressive strength, ASTM D698 or D1557 Proctor curves, ASTM C136 gradations, ASTM D4318 Atterberg limits) with pass/fail against the specification. Reports are reviewed under the quality system before distribution to the contractor, engineer of record, and building official.
